How to Remove Pages from a PDF (One Page, a Range, or a Blank Page at the End)

Oct 06, 2026

A sixty-page PDF arrives and you need sixty minus two. A scan picked up the back of the cover as a black page. An appendix contains data that should never have been shared. A blank page sits at the end because the scanner always adds one. In each case, the fix is the same: delete the right pages and keep everything else untouched.

Doing this cleanly matters. A bad edit can re-render the whole document and bloat the file; a good one removes exactly the pages you choose and leaves the rest — quality, text selection, links — as they were.

The quick answer

Open the remove pages tool, upload the PDF, click or type the pages to remove — one page, several scattered pages, or a range like 4–9 — and download the shorter file. The remaining pages keep their original quality and order; nothing re-renders, nothing gets re-compressed.

When removing pages is the right move

  • Scanned documents — wrong-way-up pages, duplicate feeds, blank backs.
  • Leaving sensitive content behind — a single page that contains what should not travel.
  • Cutting a file down to what matters — extracts of a contract, the relevant section of a manual.
  • Cleaning before sharing or printing — blank pages waste paper and look sloppy.

If you need the opposite — keeping only specific pages and discarding the rest — the extract pages tool does exactly one and the split tool does it in chunks. For full reordering, the organize tool lets you drag pages into the order that makes sense.

Step by step

Step 1 — Upload

Drop the PDF into the tool. No signup, no size surprise for everyday files — and the file is deleted after processing.

Step 2 — Choose pages

Preview thumbnails are your friend. Click the pages to remove — you will see them marked — or type ranges (e.g., 8, 12–15, 22). The preview makes it obvious whether you are removing page 4 of the scan or page 4 of the viewer's count, which for covered documents matters more than it sounds.

Step 3 — Download

The tool builds a new PDF without the removed pages. Bookmarks, if the file had them, and page labels follow; file size drops; pagination adjusts. Keep the original somewhere safe until the new file has been sent and confirmed — undoing a removal without the original means rebuilding pages that no longer exist.

Page numbering after removal

Removing pages does not automatically renumber the ones that remain — the content of page 12 is still page 12, just now at position 8 in the file. If the document relies on visible page numbers (contracts, theses, filings), stamp a fresh run with the page numbers tool after the surgery. Do it after all deletions, not before — otherwise the numbers you stamp get deleted along with their pages.

Blank pages: the special case

Nearly every scanner introduces a blank white page somewhere: the back of a duplex sheet, a divider the feeder read. Before sending, scroll to the end and the middle and check. Deleting one blank page takes two clicks and removes the one detail that says "this was a scan someone did not review."

FAQ

Does removing pages reduce quality?

No. Pages that stay are copied, not re-rendered. Text stays selectable, images unchanged, and no new compression is introduced.

What is the difference between removing and extracting?

Removing keeps mostly everything and discards a few; extracting keeps a few and discards mostly everything. Use whichever makes you click fewer pages.

Can I undo the deletion?

Not without the original. The removed pages are gone from the new file. Save the original until the revised file has served its purpose.

The viewer still shows the old thumbnail count. Did it work?

Clear the preview cache or reopen the file — some viewers hold stale thumbnails for a few seconds.

The takeaway

A PDF should contain exactly the pages that need to be there — no extras, no blanks, no sensitive page someone forgot. Remove what should not travel, extract what should, renumber if the document references its own pages, and send the shorter file that reads like the definitive version.
